Game Jam Theme: The Hero's Journey
The theme for this game jam is "The Hero's Journey". After reading related materials, I found out it is exactly the structure that many adventure games, books, and animes used. It is easy to make a game follows this structure, however, when I start to planning for my game, I found out that "a hero that can save the world (or at least save the town) is too big for my protagonist.
One of the 12 steps in Hero's Journey is Ressurection. And that's exactly what my character need. In my game, the town has no obvious dangerous, there is nothing like a huge monster attacking the town so my protagonist needs to protect it, nothing like that. So how can my character become a hero since there's nothing big to protect from? Is the self transformation. He changed his mindset throughout the journey (as you can experienced in game), not be fooled by the magic, but using his intuition and heart to discern good and bad, and protect the people around him in a very subtled way.
Because of the limited time, I don't know if you could get the whole thing (I hope so tho), but I hope this explanation is helpful for you to understand the game.
Thank you for playing!

Not bad, I enjoyed the story and it definitely doesn't entirely follow a conventional hero but still has aspects of the journey. Functionally it is almost perfect, there are certain collision issues and certain walls look like walls but you can walk through them (ex. the final boss room). Creativity wise, I like the story here and the approach taken. The bar tender then potion maker than combat specialist was an interesting journey, I just wish there was more of it. I loved the variety of visuals too. Thematically, this is a journey but it is missing some vital aspects of the hero's journey, even one that focuses on transformation or revalation rather than salvation. All in all, I enjoyed it.
