Save Cats!
Save Cats!
This is the game where you will be the cat "Arno", finding out a big secret about the losing cats in your community in a normal day, and saving them out from the bad dealers.
How to play:
Use WASD or arrow keys to move and interact.
Space key can also use to click on dialogs.
Gam Jam theme: Empathy
My understanding of Bogost's words of Empathy is that we are not trying to convince players by showing them directly the emotions that we want the players to feel (ex., using dialog such as "I am very sad"). Instead, I try to let the players feel the emotion in a very subtle way. In this case, instead of showing the whole story of losing cats by using a human character, I decided to make it a cat, so the player can relate, or empathy to the situation more immersively and relatably from a cat's perspective.
In addition, although maybe just because I don't know how to do dialog choices using this engine yet, but by having no dialog at all for the main character(which means that the player do not have any dialog choice, they cannot say anything but the NPCs can), the player can think and reflect more freely, not limited their thoughts by the dialog choices.

I liked this one quite a bit! I love cats, so this resonated with me. Talking to the different cats and the humans revealed a pretty upsetting narrative that stuck with me. The interactions work well, although they are a little shallow. I feel like more could have been done to allow the cat to interact with the environment and enhance the immersion. Otherwise, well done!

I liked the gameplay of needing to go around collecting things before moving on to the next part of the story in a logical way. I did notice that there was a door that said you can't go through it if you don't have the key, but you could go through it anyway. Other than that, everything worked fine. I did think that the villain seemed a bit unrealistic, and maybe would have been better if you didn't actually meet them. I liked the concept of playing as a cat and helping people. The ending made me feel sad and made me wish there was a way to save the cats.

The game is well-made, and it gives a blunt representation of real life. Sometimes, it can be cruel, and we can't really change the outcome of how things end up, even if our hearts are in the right place. I liked playing through the perspective of a cat, surely a fresh perspective, different than the other games in this jam.

The playing as a cat angle was a pretty cool way to approach empathy. Putting yourself in the shoes of an animal you'd have no other way to really understand. The game also looked very visually satisfying with very identifiable locations. I do wish there was a way to save the cats though :(

This was actually pretty enjoyable, not looking at the fact it has cats. It was pretty amusing to explore the house and backyard, plus the whole warehouse scene was good too. Functionally it is almost there. Certain things aren't clear - like the second ending, and there's a key that has no message, and some things that should have collisions do not and allow you to go through them. Creativity, I like the images here and what you have done with the limited pallent. The footprints especially were nicely done. Theme wise, you are pretty close - good job! Only thing really is that there was an opportunity to attempt to communicate other emotions and other ways of empathizing. There's also the particular notion of the same action or situation having different emotions for different people. Like being relieved you are being saved, while another feeling that they are now doomed due to who is the one saving them. All in all, good stuff! I encourage you to explore using more colors and decorations - and trying to play around with various conditionals.
